2018 July: Pride and Tripp
Pride and Tripp, 14 years and 1 year old, respectively, are border collies who hail from Kuykendall’s working border collie farm in North Carolina. In Pride’s younger years, he rounded up geese at Bergen Point Golf Course on the south shore of Long Island, and later he accepted a position keeping the grounds goose-free at The Edison Club in Rexford, N.Y. Now that Pride is retired, he leaves the hard work to Tripp. Both enjoy going to work every day, where they ride in the golf cart with superintendent Jeff Madison, ward off geese when necessary, and visit with members who have pockets full of dog biscuits.
Jeff is a 17-year GCSAA Class A member and a graduate of SUNY Cobleskill, where turfgrass educator Bob Emmons taught his students that every superintendent needs a lovable golf course dog. In Jeff’s case, two golf course dogs have proved good too. When not growing grass, Jeff enjoys spending time in the beautiful Adirondacks with his wife, Molly, and family.
