2018 February: Baxter and Olive

Baxter is an eight-year-old brindle English mastiff and Olive is a 2-year old “schnottie” (a schnauzer and Scottie cross). The duo provides top-notch public relations and customer service at River Ridge Golf Club in Oxnard, Calif. They like to hunt lizards, geese, coots, squirrels and anything else that moves, much to golfers’ delight. Before Olive arrived, Baxter had been slowing down a bit, but has since stepped up his game to keep pace with her. According to superintendent Kyle Kanny, the pair has become better known at the course than he is. A 2017 article in Fore magazine, the official publication of the Southern California Golf Association, featured Baxter and Olive in a profile of SoCal golf course dogs, further fueling their popularity.

Kyle is a 37-year member of GCSAA and a graduate of the University of Florida. He is the president of HT&GG Inc., a golf course management company he started after serving as construction superintendent at River Ridge. Kyle and his brothers, Otto and John, operate the 36-hole public facility for the city of Oxnard. They’re also responsible for two football fields built by the Oakland Raiders and now used by the Dallas Cowboys for pre-season camp.
